¡Hola Amigos!

The team descended from Cólera (19,600ft, 6000m) to Plaza de Mulas (14,300, 4200m) today! That’s a lot of walking downhill. We were greeted by the basecamp staff with congratulations and cheeseburgers with Coca Cola. The team is enjoying showers, espresso, Wi-Fi and all the other amenities that PM has to offer. Tomorrow we’ll be leaving Aconcagua behind and heading back to Mendoza.

9 Lives & Co. Rest at Plaza de Mulas

¡Buenas Tardes Amigos!

The team enjoyed another rest day at Plaza de Mulas, eating food, drinking coffee and relaxing in the sun. Everyone passed their final medical check with the basecamp doctors today and got the green light to start up the mountain tomorrow. We’ll be leaving the world of Wi-Fi behind, but you can still tune on the cybercast to hear how the trip is going as we move up the mountain.

9 Lives & Co. Check out Camp 1

¡Hola Amigos!

The team took a nice stroll up to Camp Canada (Camp 1) at 5000m today. This was the last acclimation hike before the team heads up into the mountain for their summit push on January 30th! The team made good time getting up and Camp Canada and even better getting down. All in the group spent about 5 hours on the mountain today and the guides are very pleased with their performance! The team ended the day with yet another amazing meal of melt in your mouth grilled meats, replenishing most of their lost calories. Everyone is looking forward to a rest day tomorrow. Chao

9 Lives & Co. Climb Cerro Bonete

¡Buenos Tardes Amigos y Familia!

The team took their first steps out of Plaza de Mulas today walking away from Aconcagua toward Cerro Bonete, a 5000m (16575ft) peak. Along the way, the team walked past an old abandoned hotel and talked to other groups on the trail. Most of the climb in walking on dirt and scree, but the last leg of the journey requires helmets and a some rock scrambling to reach the summit. From the summit the team enjoyed views of Aconcagua as well as the surrounding Argentine and Chilean mountains. A couple hours later and the team was back in camp ready for a nap. Everyone is now sleeping with bellies full of polenta.
